SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – South Stream Transport has contracted Saipem for construction support services for the second South Stream offshore pipeline. Contract value is around $552 million.
South Stream will eventually comprise four parallel gas pipelines across the Black Sea fromRussia to Bulgaria, each 931 km (578 mi) long, in water depths of up to 2,200 m (7,218 ft). Saipem was awarded construction of the first line in March.
For this latest contract, Saipem will be responsible for engineering, coordination of storage yards, cable crossing preparations, and connecting theoffshore pipeline to the landfall sections through tie-ins.
Construction of Line 2 is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
South Stream Transport is a joint venture between Gazprom (50%), Eni (20%), EDF (15%), and Wintershall (15%).
