Iran upbeat on latest deepwater well in Caspian Sea

Results from Iran’s latest deepwater exploration well in the Caspian Sea look positive, according to operator Khazar Exploration and Production Co.

TEHRAN, Iran – Results from Iran’s latest deepwater exploration well in the Caspian Sea look positive, according to operator Khazar Exploration and Production Co. (KEPCO).

Exploration director Yousef Etemadi told Iranian news service Shana that the second exploration well on theSardar-e-Jangal field, currently at a depth of 2,664 m (8,740 ft), may have found new hydrocarbon reserves.

Recently 16-in. liners were installed in the well. Total planned depth is 4,022 m (13,195 ft).

Sardar-e-Jangal holds in-place oil estimated at 2 Bbbl, with a recovery rate of 25%. Within five years the field could be producing 15,000-20,000 b/d, Etemadi claimed.
