GODALMING, UK – Hurricane Energy says the semisubmersible Transocean Sedco 712 has started drilling a horizontal appraisal well on the basement Lancaster oil discovery west of Shetland.

Operations are expected to last around 75 days, with additional technical analysis to follow.

In the UK centralNorth Sea, the Noble Ton V Langeveld has spudded a second production well on the Nexen-operated Blackbird field.

Blackbird was discovered in 2008 and has been in production since 2011 via a single subsea producer and a water injector tied back to the Aoka Mizu FPSO.

Oil is exported via shuttle tanker and gas to the St. Fergus gas terminal in eastern Scotland. Partner Atlantic Petroleum expects the new well to enter service early this summer.

The investment qualifies for theUK’s Brown Field Allowance.
