GORINCHEM, the NetherlandsThe official christening of the World Sapphire marks the completion of a six-ship order whereby Damen Shipyards has delivered six platform supply vessels to World Wide Supply AS (WWS) in just six months.

The Damen PSV 3300 vessel is equipped with azimuth thrusters and DP-2. The design is distinguished by a wave-piercing bow and slender hull lines to meet challenging rough-sea conditions and to minimize fuel consumption. The vessel also has newly designed anti-roll tanks. The 80.1-m (263-ft), 1,500-metric ton (1,653-ton) vessel can be used to transport crew and equipment to and from offshore platforms. It also offers fire-fighting and oil pollution recovery capability.

Of the six vessels, two – theWorld Diamond and Pearl – are working for GDF Suez out of Aberdeen, UK, in the North Sea, and four will be on a long-term charter for Petrobras from mid-June. The Petrobras contract was signed in April 2013 and the GDF agreement in December.

In addition to the four WWS vessels that are currently undergoing a “Petrobras conversion” at Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands, Damen has another four under construction. One will be delivered in March, another in September, and two will be delivered to PROMAR in 2015.
