LANCASHIRE, UKAllseas has contracted Balltec Ltd., a pipeline solutions specialist, to supply Balltec’s 44-in. PipeLOK pipeline recovery tool to the ShellWheatstone project located 200 km (124 mi) offshore Onslow, Western Australia

Wheatstone is the offshore central processing platform enabling a combined production capability of 8.9 MM metric tons/yr (9.8 MM tons/yr) of liquefied natural gas and domestic gas.

Balltec says that the 44-in. PipeLOK tool is the world’s largest ball-and-taper dewatering pipeline recovery tool in service. The tool has been specifically designed for the Wheatstone project, and it includes some features not been previously seen in Balltec equipment.

The tool combines the PipeLOK dewatering system with an air let-outlet system and a hot stab interface. Balltec is providing the tool for the pipe-laying phase of the Wheatstone project, which is due to begin later in 2014.
