RIO DE JANEIROPetrobras reports that well 9-SPS-77, in the Santos basin presalt Sapinhoá field, came onstream Feb. 18.

The well, producing 33,000 b/d, is connected to the FPSOCidade de São Paulo by a pioneering system in which the output pipeline riser is supported by a submerged buoy, anchored to the seabed, and located at a depth of 240 m (787 ft). The well is at a water depth of 2,118 m (6,949 ft). In this position, the riser support buoy is immune to platform movements.

The buoy was set up on Dec. 25, 2013, and rigid steel pipes were installed by Jan. 22, interconnecting the first two wells. The connection of well SPS-77 to the FPSO was completed on Feb. 17, after installing the flexible pipelines that were deployed for production on Feb. 18.

The next production well is expected to be interconnected to FPSOCidade de São Paulo by the end of 1Q 2014.
