LONDON – The semisubmersible Ocean Confidence has spudded Murphy Oil’s deepwater Bamboo-1 on the Ntem concession offshore Cameroon.

The location is roughly 56 km (35 mi) from the coast in 1,600 m (5,249 ft) of water, with TD estimated at 4,200 m (13,779 ft). Drilling is expected to take 60-70 days.

Murphy will pay Sterling Cameroon’s share of the well costs.

According to parent company Sterling Energy, Bamboo is a basin floor fan target within the prospective upper Cretaceous play. The well will intersect a series of stacked fan targets, with the main objective thought to hold potential resources of 422 MMbbl of oil and 170 bcf (4.8 bcm) of gas.
