Fast-transit Heerema crane vessel enters basic design phase

Offshore staff HOUSTON -- KBR (NYSE:KBR) subsidiary GVA is to provide basic design development for Heerema Offshore Services' large new semisubmersible crane vessel (NSCV). Last year GVA completed seven months of feasibility and conceptual studies on the NSCV. The basic design phase will continue through most of 2014. The self-propelled vessel, designed for operations globally, will be around 200 m (656 ft) long and 97 m (318 ft) wide with a lifting capacity of 2 x 10,000 metric tons (2 x 11,023 tons). According to KBR, a priority for Heerema is maximized transit speed. Additionally, the NSCV hull configuration will feature a large deckbox on an eight-column structure mounted on two pontoons. 2/5/14
