HOUSTON – EMGS will soon begin acquiring a 3D multi-client electromagnetic (EM) survey called “Daybreak” that will cover approximately 1,850 sq km (714 sq mi) in the Alaminos Canyon area of the southern US Gulf of Mexico.
The survey will acquire direct hydrocarbon indicator (DHI) resistivity data and provide deeper structural imaging data to be integrated with subsalt seismic imaging in the region.
The Daybreak project is the first phase in the company’s planned multi-phase, multi-client program in the Alaminos Canyon and southern US Gulf of Mexico. It builds on EMGS' acquisition and integration efforts in the Perdido trend in northern offshore Mexican waters. The EM data will aid oil and gas exploration companies in assessing acreage for the upcoming western Gulf of Mexico lease round this fall.
The survey, which will be done using the vesselEM Leader, has a planned duration of three months, with possible extensions subject to further industry interest. The new EM data will be processed by EMGS and will be available to clients before the upcoming Western Gulf of Mexico lease sale in the fall.
