LONDON – Premier Oil and partner Rockhopper Exploration have chosen a tension leg platform for the Sea Lion development in the offshore North Falkland basin.

Following a concept review, they concluded a TLP would be a more suitable technical and commercial solution than an FPSO-based scheme.

Front-end engineering design for the TLP will start this spring, and the partners should take a final investment decision during the first half of 2015. First oil should follow 3.5-4 years after project sanction.

Currently Premier/Rockhopper are tendering for a rig to drill the Zebedee, Jayne East, Elaine/Isobel, and Chatham prospects in the same basin, in concert with other operators in the region.

They hope to tie up four slots in the program, with the rig drilling their first well in late 2014 or early 2015.
