STAVANGER, Norway – A drill fluid leak on Saturday caused some staff to be evacuated from the Snorre A platform in the Norwegian North Sea.

According to operator Statoil, the leak occurred during drilling of a well, which is now being cemented and closed.

Although the loss of drill fluid to the reservoir was quickly stemmed, bad weather led to uncertainty over whether a vessel could get out to the platform with a new supply of drill fluid. As a precaution, 117 out of the 254 personnel onboard the platform were transferred to Gullfaks A and Gullfaks C.

Once work on the well has been completed and new drill fluid received on board, the crew members will return toSnorre A.
