DUBAI, UAE – Drydocks World has agreed with Drill One Capital to build what it says would be the world’s largest jackup drilling rig, Dubai Expo 2020 NS.

Gusto MSC has designed the CJ 80 rig, measuring 101 x 110 m (331 x 361 ft) and 5,500 sq m (59,201 sq ft).

It will be engineered to operate in harsh environments including theNorwegian North Sea in a maximum water depth of 175 m (574 ft) in standalone mode with a 25-m (82-ft) air-gap.

Other features will include up to 30% less fuel consumption due to use of advanced fuel- efficient technology; Tier 3 compliant; fresh water generation using waste heat from engine cooling; heat by hot water generated from exhaust waste heat; LED lighting where possible; up to 25% cuts in emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide; potential power from shore; and zero discharge to sea to meet Norwegian and UK legal requirements (fluids less than 15 ppm contamination).

The design draft is 8.5 m (28 ft), with a minimum operational water depth of 20 m (65.6 ft) and a leg length of 232 m (761 ft). The rig can accommodate a crew of 160.

It will be able to drill wells to a depth of 40,000 ft (12,192 m), and will be equipped with four high-pressure (7,000-psi) mud pumps.
