HØVIK, NorwayDNV GL’s new Phast 3D Explosions software module enables advanced 3D modeling, increasing both the accuracy and detail of the evaluations, along with information about the speed of vapor cloud explosion analyses.

Phast software models safety aspects of design options for proposed new facilities and for operational changes in existing facilities. The software examines the progress of a potential incident from the initial release of hazardous substances to far-field dispersion including flammable and toxic effects. The analyses take numerous parameters into consideration, including variables such as wind direction and speed.

Taking consequence analysis software one step further, the 3D modeling functionality in the Phast 3D Explosions module allows operators to complete a more realistic and detailed evaluation of explosion hazards and the blast potential, using either the Multi-Energy or the Baker-Strehlow-Tang explosion model.

Are Føllesdal Tjønn, managing director of software at DNV GL, said: “Phast 3D Explosions is the latest advancement that will help our customers in the process industries understand potential threats and hazards, so they can ensure that barriers are in place and maintained.”

Phast 3D Explosions software can be used in a number of applications, including occupied building analysis, facility siting, escalation assessment, plant layout optimization, determination of design accidental loads on structures and equipment, definition of exclusion zones, and regulatory-compliance demonstration.
