GREAT YARMOUTH, UK – Electrical engineering contractor Dabbrook has supplied a solar power system for the new Hilal B oil platform in the Gulf of Suez offshore Egypt.

Cairo-basedEnppi is building the new platform for operator GUPCO (Gulf of Suez Petroleum Co.) in Alexandria, and contracted Dabbrook for the concept, design, engineering, and construction of the modular system.

This comprises more than 200 sq m (2,153 sq ft) of solar panels, forming a 36-kW photovoltaic array, to be installed between the helideck and lower deck of the platform. The system includes six large battery banks with a main DC charging and distribution panel, and an AC panel consisting of inverters and motor starters.

Parent company Tideland has won a contract to supply navigation lights – also built by Dabbrook – for the same B platform.
