Repsol cleared for first Barents Sea well

Repsol has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill a first exploration well on license PL 531 in the Barents Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Repsol has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill a first exploration well on license PL 531 in the Barents Sea.

The semisubmersibleTransocean Barents will drill well 7218/11-1 following completion of wildcat well 6506/6-2 for Maersk Oil in PL 513.

Repsol’s license covers parts of the 7217/12, 7218/10, and 7218/11 blocks. The drilling location is 80 km (49.7 mi) southwest of Statoil’sSkrugard oil discovery and 100 km (62 mi) northeast of the Snøhvit gas/condensate field.
