Exploration resumes in Grosbeak area offshore Norway

OSLO, Norway -- Wintershall Norway has approval from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) for appraisal drilling in the North Sea.

The semisubmersibleTransocean Arctic will drill well 35/9-8 on production license 418, after completing a current wildcat for Wintershall in the Norwegian Sea.

The location is about 8 km (4.9 mi) northeast of theGrosbeak 35/12-2 discovery well and 14 km (8.7 mi) southwest of the producing Gjøa field, operated by GDF Suez.

This will be the second well on PL 418, which was awarded in February 2007 under the APA 2006 licensing round.

In the Norwegian Sea, Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved use of the semisubTransocean Searcher for intervention work on the Statoil-operated Tyrihans field

This relates to well 6407/1-B-3 H, part of PL 091. Operations should start in March and take 14 days to complete. Water depth in the area is 275 m (902 ft).
