ABERDEEN, UK – Through a joint program with Shell, OptaSense will develop the OptaSense Subsea-DAS system. The new distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) system will take OptaSense’s onshore DAS technology offshore to water depths of 10,000 ft (3,048 m).

The Subsea-DAS system will provide acoustic data for subsea and deepwater applications, including pipeline surveillance and leak detection, geo-positioning, in-well monitoring, subsea assembly condition monitoring, and permanent reservoir monitoring. The multi-application device will include functional and technical parameters configurable in software, thereby avoiding different hardware for settings or functions.

The companies anticipate that the Subsea-DAS system will be ready for demonstration by mid-2014.
