LIVINGSTON, UK – UTEC StarNet is performing laser surveys on Shell’s Shearwater platform in the UK central North Sea.

The program follows a recently-completed project on Shell’sGannet platform and involves use of technology that captures digitally and in fine detail a 3D data-set of the entire production asset.

The survey will encompass all main structural elements, piping, fixtures and fittings, production equipment, safety systems, communication equipment, plant rooms, and the drilling derrick.

It should generate a comprehensive and measureable point cloud that, combined with the web-based portal UTEC StarNet iSite, should provide global, remote internet access to all aspects of the scanned asset in 3D color.

The system provides walk-around for visualization and the ability to measure all aspects of asset condition for remote measurement, clash analysis, import and export of records and reporting documentation.

The current survey should additionally deliver a full 3D point cloud dataset for construction and fabrication.
