Offshore staff
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has named the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center within the Texas A&M Engineering Experimental Station (TEES) to manage the Ocean Engineering Safety Institute (OESI).
The five-year agreement will get $5 million in funding from BSEE to provide a “forum for dialogue, shared learning and cooperative research among academia, government, industry and other non-governmental organizations in offshore-related technologies and activities that help ensure environmentally safe and responsible offshore operations.”
TEES will partner with Texas A&M, University of Texas, and University of Houston to manage the institute.
While OESI is not a regulatory body, it will make recommendations and lend technical assistance to BSEE on emerging technologies and best practices. It also will develop and maintain and equipment failure monitoring system and train government employees in state-of-the-art technologies.
