LIVINGSTON, UK – Surface Active Solutions has teamed with Exilica to develop a chemical surfactant system named SAS Oil-Rec.

The system has been put through independent laboratory trials on homogeneous sandstone, synthetic oil, and a generic North Sea formation water chemistry. The trials were part of project sponsored by the UK’s Technology Strategy Board.

Following treatment with the new system, reportedly significant stimulation and related oil quantities were removed from sandstone core samples.

SAS Oil-Rec is now available as a service that includes independent laboratory trials on sandstone core samples to assessenhanced oil recovery (EOR) potential; field trials to evaluate local conditions; and full-scale EOR treatment of oil fields.

John Harrison, managing director of Surface Active Solutions, said the system could help boost production and extend the economic life of marginal fields or stripper wells.
