Occidental contracts third offshore Qatar jackup

Occidental Petroleum of Qatar has signed a contract to take Gulf Drilling International’s newest jackup for a five-year program.

DOHA, Qatar --Occidental Petroleum of Qatar has signed a contract to take Gulf Drilling International (GDI)’s newest jackup for a five-year program.

This is the eighth jackup in GDI’s fleet, and the third to work for Occidentaloffshore Qatar, following the Al Rayyan and Al Wajba.

The latest addition, which accommodates a crew of 116, is operable in water depths of up to 300 ft (91 m), with a rated drilling depth of 25,000 ft (7,620 m). It will be fully refurbished before entering service.
