DUBLIN, Ireland – Petroceltic will P&A its Cobalcescu South-1 exploration well in Black Sea block EX-28 offshore Romania.

The well was drilled by the jackup drilling rigGSP Prometeu to 3,298 m (10,820 ft) TD. It encountered good-quality sandstone reservoirs at the targeted Miocene stratigraphic levels with gas shows, but no commercial quantities of hydrocarbons.

Petroceltic is analyzing the well data in combination with 3D seismic acquired last year, with a view of updating the regional geologic model for future activities on the block.

The rig now heads to the Muridava concession in block EX-27 to drill theMuridava-1 exploration well with a planned depth of around 3,150 m (10,334 ft). The well path is on trend with the Olimpiskaya and Eugenia discoveries. There are multiple targets in the Eocene, Palaeocene, and Cretaceous formations with combined prospective resources of 169 bcf (4.8 bcm). It is estimated to take two months to complete.
