Statfjord accident offshore Norway prompts review

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway is investigating a mechanical handling incident on the Statfjord C platform in the Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway is investigating a mechanical handling incident on the Statfjord C platform in the Norwegian North Sea.

During a lift by the pipehandling crane last Monday, a 7-in. section of producing tubing weighing 572 kg (1,261 lb) fell 13.5 m (44 ft), landing in a stairwell.

No injuries resulted to any of the crew in the area. PSA aims to identify the cause(s).
