Maersk secures more rigs for Al Shaheen offshore Qatar

Maersk Oil Qatar has signed two contracts with Gulf Drilling International (GDI) to support the Al Shaheen project offshore Qatar.

DOHA, Qatar – Maersk Oil Qatar has signed two contracts with Gulf Drilling International (GDI) to support the Al Shaheen project offshore Qatar.

One is a two-year contract for the jackupB-341. The other is a three-year contract for a new GDI offshore accommodation jackup. Combined value is more than $205 million.   

Earlier this year, Maersk contracted GDI’sAl Jassra drilling jackup, which is currently at work on Al Shaheen, Qatar’s largest offshore oil field.

Jakob Thomasen, CEO of Maersk Oil, said: “Al Shaheen is one of the most complex fields in the world….Many more wells will be needed in the future to help successfully unlock [its] potential…”
