MELBOURNE, Australia –The jackup Ensco 104 is on location in the Timor Sea, preparing to spud the Blackwood-2 appraisal well for the NT/P68 joint venture.

According to partner MEO Australia, drilling should last around 65 days.

The location is 8 km (5 mi) from theBlackwood-1 discovery well. The aim of the new well is to improve understanding of the distribution of reservoir properties, clarify the position of the gas-water-contact, and help productivity studies.

Eni operates the NT/P68 concession, 300 km (186 mi) northwest of Darwin in the Timor Sea. It was awarded to MEO subsidiaries Oz-Exoil and TSP Arafura Petroleum in February 2004.

Heron-2 was drilled in December 2007 and flowed gas to surface at a rate exceeding 6 MMcf/d from the Elang formation in an open hole test prior to the hole collapsing.

After existing partner Petrofac declined to participate in a second well, MEO drilled Blackwood-1 in February 2008, which encountered a 48-m (157-ft) gross gas column in the Plover formation above an uncertain gas/water contact.
