Damen completes latest new-design PSV

GORINCHEM, the Netherlands –Damen Shipyards Galati has delivered the third in a series of six new platform supply vessels to World Wide Supply of Norway.

Like the others,World Pearl is built to Damen’s new PSV 3300 design, which was model tested at the Marin institute in the Netherlands. World Diamond, the first vessel under order, was delivered in July.

The PSV 3300 series are 80.1 m (263 ft) long, with a deck load of 1,500 metric tons (1,653 tons). They incorporate azimuth thrusters and DP-2 class positioning, with the slender hull lines designed improve operations in harsh conditions, minimize fuel consumption, and enhance crew comfort.

The vessels can be used to transport crew and equipment to and from offshore platforms, and to provide fire-fighting and oil pollution recovery capability. Four have long-term contracts supportingPetrobras offshore Brazil, while the other two will likely be offered to the North Sea spot charter market.
