Drilling has started two months ahead of schedule on the Western Isles project.

ABERDEEN, UK –Drilling has started two months ahead of schedule on the Western Isles project. The Ocean Nomadhas started on the nine-well development project.

Western Isles is a $1.6-billion development of two oil fields, Harris and Barra, found 160- km (99 mi) east of the Shetlands and 12 km (7.5 mi) west of Tern field, says Dana Petroleum.

When onstream in 2015, production is expected to be more than 40,000 boe/d.

Thedevelopment will include at least five production and four water injection wells plus two exploration wells all tied back to a newbuild FPSO. Water depth is 165 m (541 ft).

Partners are Dana as operator with 77% and Cieco with 23%.
