LONDON – Falkland Oil and Gas Ltd. (FOGL) has issued an update on activity on its licenses south and east of the Falkland Islands.

According to Chairman Richard Liddell, theNoble Energy-led joint venture has acquired more than 7,000 sq km (2,703 sq mi) of 3D seismic data over the Diomedea fan complex and Cretaceous fault blocks, adjacent to the Darwin gas discovery.

This will assist planning of well locations for the 2014/2015 drilling campaign.

Analysis of wells drilled in 2012 has identified areas within the basin that are most prospective for oil. The new 3D data should improve differentiation of oil from gas prospects and location of the best quality reservoir.

Noble, which will assume operatorship of the southern licenses next year, has already identified two substantial prospects, Humpback and Finback, and is in discussions with several drilling contractors for a suitable rig.

This will likely be shared with other Falkland operators, mitigating some of the mobilization costs and associated drilling services. Long-lead drilling equipment will be ordered soon. Noble is in talks with the Falkland Islands government concerning provision and siting of a temporary port to service the drilling operations.
