PERTH, Australia – Woodside will recommend floating LNG technology as the optimum concept for development of the three Browse gas fields offshore northwest Australia.

This would mean combiningShell’s FLNG technology and Woodside’s offshore development experience for the Browse LNG development.

However, the Browse Joint Venture participants must approve FLNG before progressing to the Basis of Design phase.

Woodside’s decision follows the evaluation of alternative development concepts for Browse, following the announcement in April that a planned onshore development at James Price Point would not proceed.

Other concepts considered included a pipeline to existing facilities in the Pilbara and a modified option for the Kimberley region.
