PLYMOUTH, UK – Fine Tubes has supplied stainless steel tubing to Parker for use in BP’s Schiehallion field redevelopment west of Shetland.

Parker required tubes with high corrosion resistance in a harsh environment, and long operational life to decrease future production downtime and maintenance costs.

Fine Tubes supplied 6Mo super austenitic stainless steel alloy, which it said offers increased resistance to crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and chloride-induced pitting compared to 300 series and duplex stainless steel.

Tubing supplied to Parker for two-ferrule compression fittings has to be of an exact hardness – if it is too hard, the ferrules cannot grip the metal.
