Masirah lines up rig for drilling offshore Oman

KUALA LUMPUR – Lime Petroleum subsidiary, Masirah Oil, has reportedly contracted Aban 7 for an exploratory drilling program offshore Oman.

This will involve use of the cantilever jackupAban VI to drill at least two wells on block 50 over a minimum of 50 days. The program is due to start after mid-October.

According to Hibiscus Petroleum, which jointly controls Lime, the Masirah North #1 and Masirah North East #1 will be drilled following technical evaluation and verification using the proprietary Rex Virtual Drilling technology. They could hold prospective resources close to 160 MMbbl. A commercial discovery could be developed swiftly using an early production system.
