Polar Pioneer cleared for drilling operations on Troll

The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority has approved use of the Transocean semisubmersible Polar Pioneer for drilling on the Troll field in the North Sea.

OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority has approved use of the Transocean semisubmersible Polar Pioneer for drilling on the Troll field in the North Sea.

Operator Statoil plans to use the rig for permanent plug-back of well 31/5-J-41 and side track drilling of well 31/5-H-2 in production license 085. Water depth at the site varies from 313-318 m (1,027-1,043 ft).

The program is expected to start in September and last about four months.
