Dragon secures more rigs for offshore Turkmenistan campaign

ASHKABAT, Turkmenistan – Dragon Oil has signed a memorandum of understanding with BKE Shelf to use jackup drilling capacity in the Caspian Sea over three years.

TheNeptune jackup is expected to be available for nine months of drilling starting later this summer, while the Mercury is expected to be available in 4Q 2014 to serve the remainder of the three-year term.

Dragon’s newbuild jackupCaspian Driller is in a Kazakhstan shipyard undergoing final completion and preparation for commissioning. This is expected to take up to three months. At the end of this year it should be mobilized to the Cheleken Contract Area (CCA) in the Turkmen sector and start drilling in 1Q 2014.

Among other developments, Dragon has started using an artificial lift system incorporating jet pumps on two wells in the Dzheitune (Lam) area, with what the company says are good results. Dragon plans a more detailed engineering design study with a view to wider implementation.

As part of its strategy toP&A and decommission old non-producing wells and non-producing platforms in the CCA, Dragon has now P&A’d three wells. Up to 13 more non-producing wells remain to be logged for evaluation prior to abandonment.
