ZURICH, Switzerland – ABB is to provide power equipment for up to two new Sevan-designed accommodation vessels under construction in China.

COSCO (Nantong) Shipyard will build both for Singapore-registeredLogitel Offshore, a subsidiary of Sevan Marine. The cylinder-shaped vessels will each have a displacement of around 40,000 metric tons and capacity to accommodate 490 personnel.

ABB will provide power distribution systems including generators, switchboards and main transformers, propulsion transformers, and frequency converters. Additionally, it will supply six Azipod CZ electric propulsion systems, its first delivery of this type of equipment to an offshore floater.

The automation package for the vessels, due to be delivered by late 2014, will be based on ABB’s System 800xA Extended Automation platform, which applies to vessel and power monitoring, emergency shutdown, fire and gas, and helideck monitoring.
