NEWCASTLE, UK – North Tyneside Council has appointed Kier Property as its development partner to help regenerate the former Swan Hunter shipyard on the River Tyne in northeast England.

The 34-acre (13.7-ha) site, formerly used for construction of Allseas’ pipelay vesselSolitaire, will be marketed to specialist offshore manufacturing companies by offering easy access to the North Sea, a fully operational 300-m (984-ft) quay, heavy-load lay down areas, and associated facilities and infrastructure.

Funding of £13.8 million ($20.8 million) is available for infrastructure improvements. Some are already under way to provide utilities, access and quay edge improvements, and dredging to allow berthing of larger vessels.
