LONDON -- ConocoPhillips has discovered gas in the Lacewing prospect in the UK central North Sea.

According to partnerPremier Oil, the 23/22b-6Z exploration well, drilled in block 23/22b on the sector’s eastern margin, encountered a gas column of more than 100 ft (30.5 m).

The well achieved its pre-drill objectives by evaluating the Triassic interval which contained reservoir-quality sands.

Currently the well is being P&A’d as a hydrocarbon discovery, with evaluation work under way to determine whether the find was commercial.
