Chevron China contracts newbuild West Tellus drillship

Seadrill (XOSL:SDRL) has been contracted to supply Chevron China Energy with the newbuild West Tellus ultra-deepwater drillship.

HAMILTON, Bermuda –Seadrill (XOSL:SDRL) has been contracted to supply Chevron China Energy with the newbuild West Tellusultra-deepwater drillship. The 180-day contract is for $150 million.

As soon as the vessel is released from construction it will commence the contract in China, and after that relocate to Liberia.

West Tellus is a sixth-generation drillship under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje, South Korea. Delivery is expected in September 2013. The rig will be outfitted to work in 10,000 ft (3,048 m) of water and drill to 37,000 ft (11,278 m). It is capable of operating in 12,000 ft (3,658 m) of water.
