BSEE, Coast Guard respond to well control event in Ship Shoal

The US Coast Guard and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement are responding to a report from Energy Resources Technology about a loss of well control at Ship Shoal block 225 Platform B.

NEW ORLEANS –The US Coast Guard and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement are responding to a report from Energy Resources Technology about a loss of well control at Ship Shoal block 225 Platform B.

The report, from the facility 74 mi southwest of Port Fourchon, Louisiana, said all personnel were safely evacuated.

Work on a temporary plus at well B2 was ongoing when the event was noticed. Two other wells on the platform were subsequently shut-in.

BSEE and Coast Guard responders doing overflights report that natural gas is flowing from the well and that there is a rainbow sheen. BSEE in Houma and Coast Guard in Morgan City are monitoring the well.

An investigation will be done to determine the cause of the event.
