READING, UK – Production has started from Cidade de Paraty, the second FPSO on the Petrobras-operated Lula field in the deepwater presalt Santos basin.

The location is 300 km (186 mi) offshore Brazil in the northeast corner of the BM-S-11 block.

Cidade de Paraty can process 120 000 b/d of oil and 176 MMcf/d of gas. According to partner BG Group, production in the first month will be restricted to 13,000 b/d of oil, increasing gradually thereafter as the gas reinjection systems are commissioned. Peak production is expected to be reached in the second half of 2014.

Other partners are Petrogal Brasil and Repsol Sinopec Brasil.

Chris Finlayson, CEO of partner BG Group, said: “We now have three FPSO vessels onstream in the Santos basin, two of which have started production this year alone as our development program ramps up…

“Looking ahead, the remaining 12 FPSOs committed for the first-phase development program are on schedule, with costs tracking on or under budget. The next two dedicated FPSOs in the program will start production during 2014.”
