RWE joins Petronas in block offshore Suriname

RWE Dea has agreed to farm into 40% of the block 52 license offshore Suriname held by operator Petronas Suriname E&P.

HAMBURG, Germany – RWE Dea has agreed to farm into 40% of the block 52 license offshore Suriname held by operator Petronas Suriname E&P.

This is the German company’s first license offshore northernSouth America, although it also has a stake in license NCMA2 off nearby Trinidad & Tobago.

Block 52 covers 4,743 sq km (1,831 sq mi) in the Guyana-Suriname basin, about 120 km (74 mi) offshore and in water depths ranging from 100-1,000 m (328-3,281 ft). The company says there is high-impact potential in the Upper Cretaceous strata.

Planned work program includes a 3D seismic survey and drilling of one exploration well in the next three years.

Additionally, RWE Dea is considering participation in the current bid rounds in Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
