GORINCHEM, the Netherlands – Van Oord has contracted Sealink-customized VSAT data communications services from Marlink for three offshore rock placement vessels.

Marlink’s five-year deal includes ad-hoc coverage should the vessels operate in remote areas.

Sealink will be installed aboard theStornes, Nordnes, and Tertnesflexible fallpipe vessels used to stabilize structures on the seafloor. According to Marlink, operations in remote areas create an increased need for crew welfare and operational communication.

The Sealink connectivity is delivered through stabilized 1.5-m (4.9-ft) Ku-band antennas providing global coverage with a dedicated bandwidth of CIR 512 kbps duplex, and accommodation for temporary bandwidth provision up to CIR 4,096 kbp duplex.

Multiple carrier support allows switching from the Sealink Ku-band VSAT to any Van Oord vessel. Sealink will additionally support VoIP traffic over VLAN and automatic beam switching to ensure seamless communication when moving between different satellites.
