COPENHAGEN, Denmark – DSME has cut first steel in Geoje Island, South Korea, for DONG Energy’s Hejre oil and gas production platform.

The completed 15,000-metric ton (16,534-ton) facility will be shipped to theHejre field in the Danish North Sea in 2015. The platform is expected to be in full production in 2016.

Hejre is Denmark’s first high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) development.

Søren Gath Hansen, DONG Energy’s executive vice president, said: “The oil and gas are located in a reservoir at approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) depth, where pressure and temperature are extremely high.

“It puts heavy demands on the entire construction to be able to handle the oil and gas under these conditions. Therefore, we’ve also joined forces with experienced experts in the design and construction of HP/HT platforms.”

Technip designed the platform, and DONG Energy has field engineers in Paris and South Korea co-operating in the program.
