LONDON – SOCO International and its partners have contracted the jackup Naga-2 for further appraisal and development drilling offshore southern Vietnam.

This relates to the producingTe Giac Trang (TGT) field in block 16-1 in the Nam Con Son basin. An exploration/appraisal well will be drilled in late June on the southernmost H5 fault block, said to be the field’s most significant undrilled fault block.

In offshore block 9-2, SOCO and partner Hoan Vu Joint Operating Co. have required approvals from the Vietnamese authorities for an updated full field development plan for theCa Ngu Vang (CNV) field. This includes drilling the CNV-7P development well.

Although a rig has not yet been contracted, the well will probably be drilled at the end of the year. It should also provide useful production data on the field’s previously undrilled southwest corner.

In the Marine XI concession offshore Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), the partners have agreed to speed up drilling of the Lideka Marine East 1 exploration well. TheTransocean Falcon 100 will likely spud this before mid-year.

The well is designed to target stacked plays and will test the structural closure updip from an oil leg encountered in the Lideka Marine 1 well, 2 km (1.24 mi) to the west, and a large untested structural closure in an overlying formation.
