LONDON – Subsea 7 plans to build a new heavy construction and flexible pipelay vessel that will be delivered in 2016. It will be marketed globally.

The vessel will have 2,600 sq m deck area, a 600-metric ton active heave compensate offshore crane, a 325-metric ton top tension vertical lay system, and a 7,000-metric ton under-deck basket for storage of flexible pipes, umbilicals and cables.

It will be equipped with six main engines in two engine rooms designed to maximize performance in DP-3.

Korean company Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) will build the new vessel, and the main crane and the vertical lay system will be provided by Huisman.

“This is another investment in our world class leading fleet so that we can continue to meet our clients’ demands for executing larger, more complex projects in deep and ultra-deepwater and in harsher environments,” said Steve Wisely, Executive Vice President, Subsea 7.
