RIO DE JANEIRO -- Petrobras has discovered oil in the Entorno de Iara Transfer of Rights area in the presalt Santos basin region.
Well 1-BRSA-1146-RJS (1-RJS-711), otherwise known as Entorno de Iara 1, was drilled in 2,266 m (7,434 ft) of water, 235 km (146 mi) offshore Rio de Janeiro state.
The discovery was confirmed through wire test samples of 26º API oil drawn from good-quality carbonate reservoirs just below the salt layer, at a depth of 5,045 m (16,552 ft).
Petrobras plans a formation test and drilling of another well in this area to evaluate productivity of oil-bearing reservoirs, as outlined in the mandatory exploration program of the Transfer of Rights agreement.
