HOUSTON – Produced Water Absorbents (PWA) has introduced Osorb, a new water treatment technology for offshore application.

This is claimed to remove up to 99% of free, dispersed, emulsified, and soluble hydrocarbons and oil field chemicals from water.

The technology has a high affinity for organic compounds and repels water. Its regeneration capability leads to much lower replacement costs, and a decrease in the amount of waste to be transported and disposed.

Ohio-based PWA has additionally signed a memorandum of understanding with Louisiana-based Enviro-Tech Systems (ETS) to cooperate on oil and gas processed water treatment.

The two companies are already working on their first joint project in the Gulf of Mexico. Both are deploying their technologies to meet environmental legislative discharge requirements.

PWA CEO Neil Poxon said: “We have a full schedule of trials with major oil and gas operators taking place during 2013 and we’re looking forward to working with Enviro-Tech to provide customers with a new one-stop shop for best available water treatment solutions.”
