HOUSTON – Equalizer International is introducing a new range (SWi) of flange spreading wedges at OTC. The tools are claimed to generate spreading force of up to 25 tons.

The new range includes a hydraulic (SWi20/25TE), integral hydraulic (SWi20/25TI), and a mechanical (SWi12/14TM) version. Maximum spreading force is up to 60% higher, with a potential 30% increase in spreading distance.

Ian McCormick, managing director, said: “The Equalizer International patented SWi range of flange spreading tools offer considerable time and cost savings when compared with traditional methods. Traditional flange maintenance working practices involve capital and labor-intensive activities and our tools offer significant cost savings and a safer means of spreading flanges.”

All the tools are engineered to minimize risks to the user, the company says, with no finger pinch points on the moving parts. And although the weight has been decreased, there is an additional safety feature in the form of a lanyard. The compact size and portable nature of the new range makes the tools effective even in topside/subsea areas with restricted access, the company adds.

Equalizer international is exhibiting at booth 1963.
