BP wins deepwater blocks in offshore Brazil bid round

BP has bid successfully for eight deepwater blocks offshore Brazil under ANP’s 11th bid round.

LONDON – BP has bid successfully for eight deepwater blocks offshore Brazil under ANP’s 11th bid round. The company will operate two of the blocks.

The various partnerships have committed to explore six concession blocks in the Foz do Amazonas basin, one in the Barreirinhas basin, and one in the Potiguar basin, with the right to develop any commercial discoveries under the Brazilian concession regime.

Mike Daly, BP’s executive vice president of exploration, said: “It will increase our frontier exploration exposure along Brazil’s equatorial margin and plays to our strengths in deepwater.”

The company re-entered the Brazilian upstream sector in 2011 through acquiring interests in 10 blocks fromDevon Energy and a farm-in last year to four Petrobras-operated deepwater blocks.

Brazilian subsidiary BP Energy do Brasil is expected to sign the agreements in August 2013. The full list of awards is as follows:
