Marine-1 rig switches to South Pars gas wells

TEHRAN, Iran -- The Marine-1 drilling rig is preparing to start work on 12 development wells for Phase 20 of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf.

Previously the rig had been drilling through the field’soil layer

Pourya Pornouri, managing director of International Drilling Co., said the Phase 20 operations would last three years. Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Co. (IOEC) commissioned the drilling program.
Last year, managing director of Petro Iran Co., Saeed Hafezi, said Marine-1 was one of Iran’s most advanced offshore rigs, with remote control capability. It can drill up to 15 wells without needing to relocate, and well lengths of up to 7,000 m (22,966 ft).
