Transocean deepwater drilling rig to drill for Cairn offshore Morocco

Cairn Energy has contracted Transocean’s semisubmersible Cajun Express for exploration drilling offshore northwest Africa.

EDINBURGH, UK – Cairn Energy has contracted Transocean’s semisubmersible Cajun Express for exploration drilling offshore northwest Africa.

The rig, secured initially for one year, will work on a multi-well program off Morocco, Senegal, and potentially other areas.

Subject to regulatory approvals, the rig will mobilized to Morocco to start a campaign on theFoum Draa offshore license in the second half of this year.

Cajun Express is a fifth-generation deepwater DP semisubmersible with shallow-water mooring capabilities and a 15,000-psi (1,034-bar) BOP stack. According to Cairn, the rig has a track record of efficiency with low operating downtime.
